Track Listing/Descriptions
1. Possibilities, Mvt. VI. Serenity – The sixth movement of my Masters Thesis, “Possibilities.” The seven movement work is for Tuba Quartet/Ensemble and Percussion and this movement just features the quartet. This recording is performed by the UNL Freshman Tuba Quartet.
2. The Great Tricycle Race - A fast paced tuba quartet that is just meant to be fun. I mean, come on. Tricycles. What's not fun about that?
3. Memory Lane Parts I and II – This piece is about a walk… down memory lane. The piece itself is comprised of four continuous parts – The Walk, The Rain, The Flood, and The Calm After The Storm. This recording is from a sight reading session the Chiara String Quartet gave to composition students at UNL so we could hear our music live. Many thanks to the Chiara for taking the time to read some new music!
4. Janus - I could get very deep about what I hear in this piece, but I'll simply say that Janus is the ancient Roman god of beginnings, endings, and transitions. He has two faces - one looking into the past and another looking into the future. From there, what you hear is up to you.
5. Power and Progress - Composed for the opening of Columbus High School's new building and premiered on March 23, 2017. The piece embodies the spirit of discovery with several nods to the "Discoverers," including the the school's fight song "Wave the Flag for Old Chicago."
6. Asterisms, Mvt. II – The second movement of five from a brass quintet. This piece starts with a set of five pitches and adds one more with each movement. An asterism is a group of stars that forms a picture, though not an “official” constellation. The concept behind the piece is that you start out with a picture with five stars, and every time you add one the picture completely changes. The final movement shows that the final image is truly a sum of its parts. Performed by the Scarlet Brass Quintet.
7. Sheep May Safely Graze – An arrangement of Bach’s original work mixed with a hint of Grainger’s “Blithe Bells” for organ and brass quintet for my friend’s wedding.
